Origin Of The International DOGE Day
Interestingly, there are two infamous DOGE Days. The first, scheduled for April 20 every year focuses on bringing Dogecoin enthusiasts from around the globe to honor the 420 meme coin and celebrate its cultural impact on the broader crypto market.
The second DOGE Day, on the other hand, commemorates Dogecoin’s independence, marking the launch anniversary of the dog-themed meme coin in 2013, when it was created by software engineers Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer.
Despite starting as a fun joke that stood apart from Bitcoin (BTC), Dogecoin has grown over the years, solidifying its position as the number one meme coin with the largest market capitalization and most popularity.
The creation of this meme coin was inspired by the iconic Shiba Inu dog, Kabosu. Kabosu’s viral story and famous meme captured the attention of the internet, rallying various enthusiasts who found humor and inspiration from Kabosu’s story.
The International DOGE Day was first introduced in 2023, attracting over 500 attendees. As each year brings new highlights and fun events, participation in this annual celebration is set to grow as it gradually becomes a globally recognized holiday and celebration. With the 2024 DOGE Day finally here, the community looks forward to the planned activities for this year’s festivities.
