Jon Rice Returns as Cointelegraph Editor-in-Chief in 2025
Jon Rice, a veteran crypto media professional who has overseen the newsroom at three specialist publications, has once again taken on the role of editor-in-chief at Cointelegraph.
Rice previously held the position in 2020-21 during the COVID-19 pandemic, prior to which he built and launched the long-form Cointelegraph Magazine publication. He later moved to Blockworks as editor-in-chief. Rice also co-founded Crypto Briefing in 2017, and is a founding member of the Association of Cryptocurrency Journalists and Researchers.
According to Rice, the opportunity to present a new editorial and content vision for Cointelegraph is a major reason for his return to the role.
Describing his vision for Cointelegraph’s content across multiple platforms, Rice said, “Technology is neutral, a fact that is rapidly percolating through the highest echelons of government across the globe. People, on the other hand, can be good or bad. The goal of our platform will be to celebrate the opportunity that Web3 technologies can present when used positively, while holding bad actors accountable.”
Rice also noted that while crypto media in general has new challenges in the form of AI and increased mainstream coverage, the success of the Cointelegraph model gives the company a firm footing for the future.
“Under the current leadership, Cointelegraph has crystallized its strategy. It has created a series of successful ancillary businesses, including Decentralization Guardians, Formula agency, and others.
And the most important truth in journalism continues to be sacred at Cointelegraph: Editorial integrity and independence are unimpeachable.”
Rice continued by noting that, “Building a business that can successfully fund a serious editorial division is no easy feat. But with Cointelegraph’s reach and institutional knowledge, and crypto’s increasing relevance to more and more people around the globe, this is a brand that has a bright future.”
Yana Prikhodchenko, CEO of Cointelegraph, said that “Jon is one of the most experienced and credible people in the crypto industry. He has proved that he can manage the expansion of a major newsroom and that he can recruit and retain exceptional talent. I am certain that he will make an immediate impact and help us meet our ambitious goals for the future.”
Rice’s first action is to promote the current head of editorial, Geraint Price, to deputy editor-in-chief. “Geraint has laid the foundation for a rapid evolution in our coverage, through hiring and training talented journalists, and creating processes that have significantly improved Cointelegraph’s quality control. He is an outstanding journalist and editor who has a major part to play in the continuing evolution of crypto media.”
