Ubisoft Set to Revolutionize Web3 Gaming with Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles
Ubisoft, a renowned global leader in video game development, has announced its much-awaited entry into the web3 gaming world with the launch of its first web3 game, Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles which is scheduled for release on October 23. The game is set to debut on Oasys’ Layer-2 network, HOME verse.
Almost a year after its first announcement of the project, Ubisoft has finally set the stage for its first web3-integrated game, Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles. The game invites players to take a dive into the dark fantasy world of Grimoria where they can build and battle teams of digital Champions in strategic PvP combat. Since it leverages blockchain technology, players are offered the chance to have unprecedented ownership of in-game assets without compromising gameplay as will be seen further down.
“At Ubisoft, we’re constantly seeking to push boundaries and explore new technologies,” says Nicolas Pouard, VP of Ubisoft’s Strategic Innovation Lab. “With Champions Tactics, our goal is to create an immersive experience where Web3 integration happens seamlessly in the background. Players can focus on gameplay and strategy, while benefiting from the enhanced capabilities blockchain offers.”
The game Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles, is set in the dark and mysterious world of Grimoria, which is home to 75,000 unique digital Champions whereby each is equipped with different traits and abilities. As such, players are entitled to assemble a team of three Champions to engage in intense battles against other players.
When it comes to the game, the Forge system is incorporated into the system. Its core function is to introduce a level of customization and mastery that hands over the control of the gameplay to the players themselves. As such, players can always refine and enhance their teams continually. What this does is unlock new possibilities together with competitive advantages in which Ubisoft envisions scenarios where players have a sense of ownership and creativity over their assets.
In relation to Ubisoft’s tapping into the web3 community, it is evident that they continually manage to do so successfully. For instance, the company’s first 10K PFP collection, The Warlords, was the highlight of Q3 2023; In July 2024, Ubisoft’s 75K Champion mint broke even more records, generating considerable buzz. Furthermore, as the anticipation of Champions Tactics grows, Ubisoft’s online community has expanded to over 100K X followers and 50K Discord users, cementing its community of users who are already eager to explore what the game holds.
Additionally, Executive producer Sylvain Loe-Mie underscored the company’s commitment to providing a true gaming experience as opposed to simply another blockchain project by saying, “We’re creating a game first and foremost. This isn’t GameFi—we’re focused on delivering an engaging and immersive experience for all players. Our expertise with franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Heroes of Might & Magic has allowed us to craft something truly unique, built to appeal to all gamers, not just Web3 enthusiasts.”
It is also worth noting that Oasys is the engine behind the web3 integration of Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles. Being a blockchain that is designed for gaming, its Layer-2 HOME verse network ensures that the blockchain elements of the game – asset ownership and player transactions – are optimized for performance. In light of this collaboration, Ryo Matsubara, Oasys’ representative director, praised Ubisoft’s approach, saying, “We are thrilled to partner with Ubisoft in launching their first Web3 game on HOME Verse. The success of their earlier mints demonstrates the strong demand for Champions Tactics. This launch will not only raise the bar for Web3 gaming but also showcase the continued appeal of Ubisoft’s brand in the digital space.”
By combining the best elements of tactical gameplay with the benefits of Web3 technology, Ubisoft is on a journey to usher in a new era of blockchain gaming. Therefore, with Oasys and double jump.tokyo, Ubisoft’s first blockchain game, Champions Tactics: Grimorian Chronicles is poised to set new standards for how the blockchain can improve the gaming scene.
