Welcome to 20 (More) Questions with HeidiTravels and Wade Paterson! We’re a couple of travelers who have been traveling around the world for over three years.
1. What inspired you to become full-time travelers?
Heidi: It was a combination of wanting to explore the world, learn new cultures, and have different experiences.
Wade: I had been working in the corporate world for about 10 years and I was feeling like I needed a change. I wanted to do something different, something more meaningful.
2. What was the first destination you ever visited together?
Heidi: We actually went to Mexico together. We stayed in a small beach town called La Paz and we went on a whale watching tour. It was a great introduction to traveling together.
3. What is your favorite country to visit?
Heidi: That’s a tough one! I’d have to say India. It’s so vibrant and colorful and the people are so friendly.
Wade: For me, it’s Peru. I love the culture, the food, and the amazing landscapes.
4. What has been the most challenging destination to visit?
Heidi: It was definitely South Africa. We were traveling in the middle of winter and it was so cold and wet!
Wade: Yeah, it was definitely a challenge. We also had some culture shock, as it was very different to what we were used to.
5. What has been your most memorable experience while traveling?
Heidi: I’d have to say trekking to Machu Picchu in Peru. It was an incredible experience and it was amazing to stand atop the ruins.
Wade: Mine was hiking the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal. It was an incredible trek and the views were breathtaking.
6. What do you think is the best way to travel?
Heidi: I think slow travel is the best way to experience a destination. Take your time to explore a place and get to know the culture and the people.
Wade: I agree. We’ve found that the slower we travel, the more we get out of a destination.
7. What advice would you give to someone who is considering becoming a full-time traveler?
Heidi: Do your research and make sure you’re prepared. Have a plan and a budget and make sure you have the right visas and paperwork.
Wade: Also, don’t be afraid to go outside your comfort zone. Traveling is all about learning and growing, so push yourself to try new things and explore.
